How it Works
Each letter of the alphabet represents a scripture, A through Z. If you choose to memorize just one scripture per week, in six months you would be finished with this first level of our system and would have twenty-six key bible verses locked into your mind. After memorizing all 4 levels of scripture you would have the benefit of over 100 verses in your long-term memory.
What makes this an incredibly powerful, dynamic, life-altering exercise is the influence of the Holy Spirit on the process. The Holy Spirit quickens the head knowledge, the written word (logos) that we’ve hidden away and turns it into life changing heart knowledge (rhema) through our experiences. These nuggets of truth begin to give us direction when life’s circumstances dictate that we need them. They guide us towards God’s will for us. We hide God’s word in our hearts so that we know what is right and do not stray from it.
I want to encourage you to begin by making this a normal part of your daily routine. My children and I choose to go over the bible verses each evening before bed; it’s just another part of our normal day. We’ve found the most effective way to begin each session is to start at the letter A and work through to the letter we are currently memorizing. As you do this, you are further engraining your prior efforts into your long term memory. Don’t forget, you can make this fun! We sing and dance and laugh! Memorization need not be a dry, boring exercise; it certainly isn’t at our house.
Finally, memorizing these scriptures has been one of the great blessings of my life. Knowing God’s word has given me confidence, insight and the wisdom that I sorely lacked. In parting, I will leave you with one of my favorite verses:
“May the Lord bless you and keep you,
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
